Figurine | Home » » » Vintage Silk Paintings of Chinese Ladies | | | | | | | Description: | | This pair of paintings are of traditional Chinese style and rendered on silk; each is then matted on a paper backing. These fine examples of Asian art are originals from the Sichuan region of China, painted in the mid 20th century. They were exported to the United States soon after President Nixon's historic visit to China. Each is an exquisite example of the centuries old ink and brush techniques that are so closely associated with art from the orient. As is the case with much of Chinese art, these paintings owe as much to Taoist philosophy as to artistic style. There is a balance of energy, Yin and Yang, between the people and the objects in the painting. Essentially it is a compositionof things that are alive and things that merely exist. There is a pull between the elegantly dressed courtly lady and the garden stones. There is contrast between earth and humanity and male vs. female energy. The same ideas of harmony and the Tao play prominent roles not only in painting in China but in Feng Shui and martial arts as well. Additionally each painting includes a longevity symbol, bamboo in one and plum blossoms in the other. | | | Features: | |
