Feng Shui | Home » » Vintage Silk Painting of Traditional Chinese Dynasty Courtesan | | | | | | | Description: | | This painting of traditional Chinese style is rendered on a fan shaped length of silk; it is then matted on a paper backing with a brocade fabric boarder. The painting is an original from the Sichuan region of China, painted in the mid 20th century. It was exported to the United States soon after President Nixon's historic visit to China. The style is in keeping with the centuries old ink and brush techniques so closely associated with art from the orient. Taoist philosophy is a prominent feature in Chinese paintings and arts. Essential to each work is a balance of energy, Yin and Yang. In this fan shaped painting the balance is between people and objects. The representation is of the living contrasted with things that merely exist. There is a pull between the elegantly dressed courtly lady and the garden stones. There is contrast between earth, as shown in the rock and plant life, and humanity. The same ideas of harmony and the Tao play prominent roles not only in painting in China but in Feng Shui and martial arts as well. It is an inescapable aspect of Asian art. | | | Features: | |
