Mala Beads & Meditation | Home » » Ceramic buddha | | | | | | | Description: | | In China the Buddha is often depicted with a large sack or bag. This is derived from the legend of Pu Tai, a Buddhist monk who traveled round spreading Buddhist thought during the Tang Dynasty (618 to 907). He was extremely kind and jovial and may be the original source of the happy or laughing Buddha that is so common in China. Usually the Buddha carries, or sits upon, the sack. This rendition is cast with ceramic clay and hand painted with traditional glazes in Shiwan, China. Shiwan has been a center for artistic pottery since the Tang Dynasty. Collectors of Oriental art and ceramics will recognize the continued influence of Shiwan ceramics. | | | Features: | |
