The Chinese word for "fish" is a homonym "surplus" or "abundance." Not surprisingly the fish is an often used motif in Chinese art. The gift of a fish, actual or artistic, is a wish for the recipient to be blessed with abundance and prosperity. This hand made ceramic tray is decorated with a catfish, which has the symbolism of a wish for a prosperous year. The tray has a tan colored fish surrounded by an aqua colored transmutation glaze. It is safe for food service and makes for a spectacular center piece. Not intended for ovens or microwaves.
